Meet Monica from Cakes by Mojo...
My name is Monica. I am a Mother of a 15 month old, as well as a Step-Mother to 8 & 7 year olds. I have a full-time office job. But, cakes & cupcakes have always been my true passion. This will be my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show and I'm very excited about it!
I have been baking since I was a young girl. I loved helping in the kitchen with my Mom, Grandma and Aunt's while they baked. I have always loved to bake & decorate cakes & cupcakes. I remember at a young age I would use my Mom's cake decorating tools to decorate my own cakes for her, which only a Mother could love. Through the years I have watched many TV dessert shows & have experimented a lot. In recent years I have taken some decorating classes at local craft stores. Now, my cakes & cupcakes actually look like what they are suppose to. I discovered my talent by feedback from friends & family. I would always bring a dessert of some sort to pot luck.
Everything inspires me to create. Whether it is for a wedding, birthday, baby shower, bridal shower, bachelor/bachelorette party, religious, graduation, engagement party, retirement, holiday or just because, my clients' visions also help me get inspired.
I am creative by just trying something , i.e. a new recipe or design. I have made a lot of cakes, cupcakes and cookies that sounded yummy or looked beautiful in my head. But, did not quite workout how I expected in real life. Luckily, I have great taste testers at home. In 5 years I would love to be doing my business full-time. Everyday is better with cake!

Meet Brittany Hoose from B.pottery...
My name is Brittany Hoose. I am the
designer and owner of B. Pottery. All of B. pottery's merchandise is
made at my local residence in Willoughby Ohio. My work place known as “The
Shop” was once my grandfather’s cabinet shop.
My grandfather, Lawrence Kimball was the owner and craftsman of Kimball
Cabinets. After he passed away I remolded his shop into my pottery studio. I
spend most of my days with my family who encourages me to follow my dream of
being a successful potter.
The love for my home town,
Cleveland, Ohio inspired me to create one of my top sellers called “The Ohio
Love”. This piece is a ceramic cut-out
in the shape of Ohio with a hand carved heart to mark the Cleveland spot. Nature is also a large inspiration for my
work. I gravitate towards earthy glazes and organic shapes.
My mother Pat Hoose, owner and baker of
Pat Hoose Cakes, encouraged me to pursue my interest in pottery. We both share
the passion for the craft, as she majored in fine arts at Ohio University.
Growing up I helped my mother in her bakery. In the bakery I mostly worked with
fondant, which is a lot like clay. These experiences influenced my interest in
the pottery craft. When I was first introduced to the
potter’s wheel I felt a connection with the clay. When learning the craft it came natural to
me. I felt I received positive feedback from my peers which allowed me to see
my vision of making pottery my career.
The process in which I work is a free
flowing atmosphere. I keep an open mind
when creating which allows me the freedom to experiment with new and different
designs. Music plays a large role in my creative process. I like to set a good mood in “The Shop” when
working. This helps me be productive and artistic. In five years, I see B. pottery
continuing as a commercial success hoping to expand its market to larger
retailers and a broader market. The message behind my work reflexes my
freedom to create one of a kind and unique pieces for people who appreciate
handmade art.

Meet Sandy & Ellen Dublo of Vintage Lites...
Sandy & Ellen Dublo are both recently retired, Ellen from Cleveland
Clinic, and Sandy from Miceli Dairy Products. We enjoy our son and
daughter in law, 2 lovely granddaughters, wine, and travel. Sandy loves
to golf, and Ellen loves sewing, knitting, jewelry making, and anything
creative. We are active with the Strongsville Community Band as board
members, and we sing in our church choir. We have been making lamps for about 10 years, although we have been selling them for 2 years. This is our 2nd Avant-Garde Show.

themselves. Although we love the wine, the bottles come in so many
lovely shapes and colors, it seemed a shame to toss them out. We do our
best to enhance the graceful lines and colors of the bottles. Our unique
signature is the lighted shade. We began making lamps to give to family and friends as holiday gifts. We gave a lamp to a friend who runs a wine store, and he displayed it on the counter. Soon people were asking to purchase the
themselves. Although we love the wine, the bottles come in so many
lovely shapes and colors, it seemed a shame to toss them out. We do our

lamp, and he asked if he could have a few in the store to offer - and Vintage Lites was born!
Who knows where and how talent is uncovered? Ellen has always been
interested in making things - her Girl Scout badge sash is in the sewing
room with most of the badges related to sewing, arts, and crafts. Sandy
enjoys working with tools. Put the two together, and our lamp is the
result. Plus, 6 months after retirement, we are still talking to each
other.....

The creative process begins, of course, with the enjoyment of a glass of wine (please note, however, that we get LOTS of help from many friends). Sandy cleans the bottles and removes the labels (although we do make some lamps with the label intact). He then drills a hole in the back, inserts the string of lights with a strain relief bushing, and brings some up into the neck of the bottle. Ellen then attaches the shade and applies the glass gem cabachons in 2 layers. Grape leaves, a hanging cork, and a raffia tie complete the look. In 5 years, we hope to be healthy and still creating lamps. Perhaps we will even come up with more wine-related items. Vintage Lites' message is to enjoy what life offers ~ a lovely glass of wine, warm company of friends and family, and the soft glow of a unique wine bottle lamp.
