Meet Elisa Burchett from Original You LLC...
Elisa Burchett, owner and founder of Original You, LLC in Akron, Ohio, worked in the corporate world for over 10 years before starting her company. Her personal story is what motivated her and led her down this path to find great performing natural products. As herself and her family members suffered from a variety of skin and health issues, such as hormonal acne, psoriasis, warts, low immunity, and asthma, Elisa found that medicinal treatments were often harsh on the skin and body.  She began searching for natural solutions.  To her delight, not only did these natural products eliminate many chemicals and medicines from her family’s home, but many times the natural ingredients worked more effectively and even added benefits beyond what was expected!
Combined with a desire to spend more time with her family, Elisa left her corporate job and began Original You in 2014.  Her heart’s desire is to educate and help others to treat common ailments through the use of natural products and essential oils.  Even more importantly, Elisa wants to encourage her customers to be the original beautiful people they are – to embrace who they are – to bring out their God given strengths and let the authentic person shine through.

Elisa’s passion drove the research and found the resources needed to begin her business. She was determined to develop a line of natural products that performed, looked and smelled great, while providing education to her customer base.

Meet Gloria Yeager from Globies...
People call me the "Bandana  Lady," I am retired, been crafting for shows for several years, started when I began making bandanas for my own dogs, then people requested them for theirs, so now I make them for dog events as well as craft shows. These bandanas do not tie on, they slip on the collar and are safe to wear rather than the ones which tie on because they can choke your dog. These come in S M L.

My #2 best seller is Bar Towels, these are sports themes and are great gifts for men $5.00 only.
My #3 seller are the magnets. 50 cents each  sports, seasonal and anything I can cut out of a magazine to be interesting. right now the movie Frozen is a big request in the magnets.
I have "Fun Bags"  which have  current themes, from Frozen, sports, some are denim, these I started making for myself to have a cover for my notebook- they are the right size, but can be used for totes and purses.  Another item very well taken are the Browns Dawg Pound Dawgs.

I have done other Avant-Garde shows, and I plan on doing more!

Meet Sandie Angart from Three Sisters Plates...
My name is Sandie Angart. I am married, have 2 boys 21 and 18 and a beautiful furry daughter, my golden Daisy
I started my business in 2007.

This will be my third Avant-Garde Art Show!

It is kind of hard to say what got me into this. I have been creating my whole life. But while spending a week with my 2 sisters, hanging out, shopping, eating and crafting we came up with the idea for the plates (which is why it is called Three Sisters Plates). They both went back to their full time jobs and they encouraged me to run with the idea. "Come on Sandie. Go for it!"

Like everything the more you do something the better you get at it. I have picked up tricks along the way and am always finding ways to improve the finished product. A lot of it is Trail and Error.  About 1 year ago I expanded the idea and now also make bracelets and just recently earrings!

In 5 years or sometime in the future I would LOVE to open my own Brick and Mortar Shop.

My motto has always been "Life throws enough garbage at you. Don't stress over the little things. Laugh Often. Dance and sing whenever and as much as you can. And NEVER life with regret!"

My plates are designed to make people smile, laugh and enjoy. They are a fun addition to any room!

Art for the Home!

Nicki Thome from NicklebeeDesigns...
I have lived on Cleveland’s east side my whole life and I have my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Kent State University.  I work full time as an Insurance Services Specialist for mortgage companies.  Not quite fulfilled in my career, I decided to venture out to see what else I could do that would bring more joy to my life.
I have always had a crafty side and always loved creating and making projects for my home.  About 6 months ago, I decided to try to take this passion for crafting and make it into something more.  I started selling my handmade colorful signs with inspirational quotes and sayings on Etsy and NicklebeeDesigns was born! NicklebeeDesigns came about because my grandpa used to call me Nicklebee when I was younger and I was always helping him with his different projects so it just seemed like the perfect name for my business!

This will be my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft show and I am very excited! This will actually be my very first craft show so I am eager to learn about the ins and outs of how everything goes!  I hope to be able to make it to more craft shows as my business grows!
I find inspiration all around me! I like to find different color combinations for my signs and get ideas for quotes in everything I see and read.  I particularly love rustic décor and love to model signs from old barns and reclaimed wood.  My friends and family are a huge inspiration as well.  They always help me come up with new ideas and give great feedback on my work!
I would love to be able to turn my passion for creating custom pieces into a full time business one day.  My goal is to bring a smile and a happy feeling every time someone looks at their own custom sign!  I love to create these unique signs for wall art and be able to bring that into someone’s home.  It’s amazing to me to see a blank piece of wood turn into something so beautiful that livens up a boring wall or shelf.

Visit my website at www.Etsy.com/Shop/NicklebeeDesigns for more info and to see all of my available signs or to start a custom order for a special sign just for you!

Meet Cristen Magree from Rusty Bear Studio...
I was born and grew up here in Northeast Ohio while spending summers in Western NY state, immersed in the beautiful country life. After attending Kent State University for Earth Sciences, I settled in the Aurora area with my husband, Mark, and started my art business, Rusty Bear Studio. I have been fortunate enough to have both my artwork and jewelry accepted into galleries in Ohio, NYC and Chautauqua, NY as well as producing commissions for people across the country.
My mother has been a prominent local artist since long before I was born so I began to create artwork from a very young age. I continued to challenge myself with new techniques after my academic career and, at the age of 25, began to develop my business. Now, at 30, I continue to push myself with new techniques, mediums and commissions and I enjoy every minute of it.

This will be my third Avant-Garde show and I am very much looking forward to the newest location added to the show line!

I have a passion for science, geology and the outdoors, which I try to convey through each piece of artwork I create. I am constantly inspired by the colors, movement and history I see in the parks and countryside that we are lucky enough to have right outside our door here in Ohio.

Living in the age of information and technology, I have the ability to go online to research and study the many new techniques that artists are coming up with at the touch of a fingertip. Without these sources I would not have learned about fluid pour or alcohol ink painting. I am always pushed by advancements in the art world to try new things and evolve my style.
I found my talent for art as a child, drawing and painting for fun along side my mother and continued to hone my skills throughout high school and college, focusing on animation and Special FX make up. The words of Cole Porter have always been an inspiration to me, "Experiment. Make it your motto day and night. Experiment, and it will lead you to the light." Without experimentation, I would not have found my footing in multi-media work or jewelry design.

Once something inspires me to create a painting, I begin the process of finding color and movement that follows that inspiration. I will use several different mediums that will chemically interact with each other to create new designs and texture. Sometimes I will be working on up to 10 pieces at at a time because my techniques call for each layer to dry almost completely before I can continue. I chose acrylic paint and alcohol ink as the bases for my pieces because of their shorter dry time.

For my jewelry, I look for pieces that explain the geologic history of Ohio in a beautiful way, whether it be rare fossils, uniquely formed minerals or specimens local to the Ohio region. I also like to keep my wraps as simple as possible as to highlight the fossil or mineral itself, which is the true art in my work.

In five years I see myself as continuing to have a regular presence at local shows as well as branching out into regional shows. I hope to have educated as many people as I can about the geologic history of Ohio and to have inspired people to see their own passions and desires in my work.

The message in my art is two fold. For my paintings the message is that there is no intrinsic message. I want each viewer to see what they want to see in each piece. I want them to have their own experience and make their own world out of what they see. I love when no two people see the same thing in a single piece. And for my jewelry, I hope to promote a message of education and passion about science and nature. If I can get one more person looking for a fossil on the beach as they walk along, I will have gotten my message across.

Meet Ann Marie Raffis from Garden Glass by Ann...
I am a full time nurse and last year I met a coworker who got me started on the 'junking' craze as well as the garden art creative side of things.  I found out that I had a bit of an eye for it and through trial and error I started to put together things that I enjoyed and made me smile.

How I get my inspiration... My garden flowers peak out behind the snow in the winter time and remind me that spring is never too far away no matter how long the Cleveland winter.
My creative process... I enjoy the hunt for special glass pieces that have outlived their usefulness and have found their way into a thrift store or garage sale.  I play around with combinations until I feel that I've gotten it right.
What's great about these pieces is that the stems age gracefully developing a patina that I especially enjoy and I hope others do as well. The bird feeders are also a joyful way to take used materials and give them new life.

Fall Shows Have Launched.. New Chagrin Falls Vendors!

Meet Shannon Gianoni from Saya Papaya Handmade..
Hi! I'm Shannon. I am the owner, creator, designer, photographer, webmaster, bookkeeper, buyer, curator, maker, packer, shipper, and customer service representative of Saya Papaya Handmade Jewelry. When you order from Saya Papaya, I make your jewelry with my own two hands. When you contact Saya Papaya, you're talking directly to me. When you come to Saya Papaya's craft shows, you'll see me behind the table. I'd love to meet you.

I have been crafting and making jewelry my whole life – my childhood was filled with every craft kit and art class imaginable, and as I got older, I tried more and more crafts. My mom was always incredibly supportive and helped to foster my creativity by providing me every opportunity to create. Ultimately, jewelry is the craft that I returned to again and again until Saya Papaya Handmade Jewelry became a business in Fall 2012 – it was a hobby that turned into a full-time dream job in June 2014! The September show in Chagrin Falls will be my first Avant-Garde Show!

I love the rich and wonderful history of rhinestone jewelry and Swarovski Austrian crystals - rhinestone costume jewelry was originally created as an affordable way for the average woman to feel as glamorous as royalty without breaking the bank. I am excited to be carrying on the tradition by making beautiful Swarovski jewelry that is wearable and affordable. I am inspired by vintage jewelry designs, vintage glass jewelry components, and current color trends.

My creative process is largely unconscious, at least early on. I look everywhere for inspiration in terms of color. I take everything in and let it swirl around in the back of my mind. I think a lot of what I create is based on how it makes me feel. My brain is wired toward being very concrete, factual, and scientific (my background is in psychology), so jewelry gives me a chance to foster a more abstract, creative, and aesthetic side. I usually create a design in my head and then go looking for the components to bring it to life. It would probably be a lot easier to see what I have to work with and then come up with ideas, but I think the way I do it makes my designs more “me.” It also challenges me to find unique, often vintage, materials to work with.

At this point, I don’t know where my business will be in five years, and that’s a good thing! Since I’ve been working for myself full-time, things have changed rapidly and positively. Some great things are happening, and I’m excited to see where they lead. What is most important to me is that my business can continue to bring my customers and myself happiness.

I’ve struggled with understanding why making jewelry makes me happy, since jewelry, on the surface, seems frivolous. I realized that jewelry is a means of expression on many different levels. It allows me to be creative and to feel beautiful and confident, and I hope that it gives my customers a means of expressing their personal style or their love for friends and family members when it is given as gifts. I hope that my jewelry designs convey a sense of uniqueness, beauty, and appreciation of color. My business also gives me an opportunity to connect with many different kinds of women and to talk with people about a cause that is important to me. A portion of every Saya Papaya sale is donated to Animal Friends, the shelter where our namesake and furry mascot was adopted.

Meet Ricky and Deb Baxter...
Ricky has been a cabinet maker for over 30 years mostly working in GA.  He has done work for pro football players, attorney's, physicians and the like.  He has re-established himself here in OH since Nov. and has been busy (outside from the time off from his knee surgery) building custom book cabinets, custom kitchen cabinets, credenza, and band saw boxes, some are one-of-a-kind.

I started working with Ricky late last year doing things such as making Ohio clocks or geometrical designed mirrors.  Both of us mostly use hard woods such as wormy maple, oak, or other hard woods.

This will be our first year doing an avant-garde show and we're anxious both as vendors and probably shoppers too.

Inspiration can come from most anywhere.  Living close to Lake Erie, Ricky has made custom canes and I have made home décor.  Many times, Ricky will start working with a piece of wood and isn't sure of the finished product.  It may start out as one thing but wind up to be something totally different.

What got us started was Ricky's prior experience.  After he moved to Ohio, he had to start from scratch.  Seeing his talent, I suggested that he get back into what was his hobby and build on it.  I find working with wood to be relaxing.  Knowing there are different avenues this can go, I started making the clocks and was really proud of what I could accomplish.  Also, the economy isn't so kind so this seems like a good opportunity to work for ourselves and hopefully do well enough to be able to open a shop.  However, timing is everything.
We have also purchased a CNC router machine and hope to be able to incorporate more designs in to the woodworking projects.  As with any software, it's learning the language and having the time to balance it.  We're a work in progress though.

The message we would like to convey is don't let the naysayers discourage you.  Have faith in God as He gives us gifts within ourselves.  Have faith in Him, and you'll have faith in what you can do.  A friend gave me a plaque that I read regularly which says: "Don't Measure the Size of the Mountain, Talk to the One Who Can Move It".

Meet Jaclyn Davey and Rachel Trentanelli from String Bean Esthetics...
Our Motto: Repurposed, Reimagined, and Reloved
We're two secondary school teachers as well as mothers living in Chesterland. Considering we're both 'out of the box' educators inside of the classroom, we gravitated towards each other in the school setting. Our friendship bloomed when we both began to reside in the same town. I've (Jaclyn) always had a love for flea markets; it's something my mother and I enjoyed doing together, going on adventures to hunt for treasures. Last summer (2013) my mother was unable to go to one of our "honey holes" to pick, the Springfield Flea Market. As it turns out, Rachel was interested in seeing the goodies for herself. Needless to say she was 'bit' by the picking bug the second she stepped foot onto the gravel at the open air market...we saw so many pieces of furniture that people just walked passed. We saw the hidden beauty in the lines and the potential for new life. When we arrived home, we started to discuss what could be done to all of those pieces if we got our hands on them and from there, as they say, the rest is history.
We LOVE to pick yard sales and local flea markets. Furniture is our focus. A discarded side table here, an old dresser there. It's kind of the adage "another man's trash is another one's treasure". We're always asked "now, what do you plan on doing with that?!" ...and frankly, half the time we don't know initially. We take the piece home and ponder. Furniture speaks to you; really, it does. That's what guides us! What the piece tells us it would like to become. It wants new life; it wants to be loved again. We're here to help make that creation happen through meticulous sanding, rebuilding at times, priming and painting, fun fabric and hardware choices. Our goal is to make the pieces pop on their own, to keep the classic integrity of its original design but with a little extra personality to make it special.
This is our first Avant Garde Show. We've had our feet wet at a couple of local flea markets and have had great success with our pieces finding good homes. And that's our desire, to find our furniture homes where they'll be loved and cared for into the future. Honestly, this has been an amazing hobby that we've started to invest serious time into, but we love the creative process: the hunt, the design process, the transformation, then talking to people at markets and shows to find our pieces great homes. It's almost an obsession at this point!
Hopefully, in five years you'll be able to see the two "string bean" built ladies out picking in the warm months, haggling with flea market vendors and contemplating design over a piece. I think we'd love to eventually see our pieces in a store location at some point, but who knows what the future will bring to us. We're having fun with our hobby. It's been a great change of pace and stress relief to get with your best girlfriend and transform pieces: away from work, away from the daily grind...it's just the two of you laughing, designing, and transforming till the wee hours into the night.

Feel free to check us out on Facebook too; we're always posting our recent finds and pictures of our furniture pieces going through the transformation process. Feel free to message us, make comments, and tell us what you think!

Meet Martha Kreger from Simply Made for Dogs...
Simply Made for Dogs was inspired by our dog, LADY.

My husband and I adopted Lady from Marilyn's Voice Pet Rescue in
September 2013. Marty states. "Ever read the ingredients in your dog's treats?
I did and decided to make my own dog treats and share them with other concerned dog owners."

I have been at many Craft and Art Shows and currently at outdoor markets in Willoughby, Mentor and Painesville.  The Chagrin Falls Show in September will be my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show.

I am looking forward to providing Chagrin Falls area  dog owners with safe, all natural dog treats for their family pets. They are made with human grade ingredients in my home kitchen. I make crispy treats to help preserve them as no chemical preservatives are used.  The crispy texture  helps clean your dog's teeth.
Store the treats similar to people cookies and are best kept in airtight containers in the freezer.  No need to thaw before using.

All treats are tested and approved by the State of Ohio Department of Agriculture.

Currently I offer Beefy Cheddar, Peanut Butter, Fresh Breath, Gluten Free Pumpkin Treats and Sweet Potato Chips.

I also handmake Unique Dog Accessories.  Currently I have my Cute As A Button line.  Each one has a decorative button that decorates Collar Scarves, and Poo Bag Dispensers.  More items will be added.

Please like me on FaceBook at Simply Made For Dogs.
