Meet Alice Mullins from Two Ponies Inc...

I hold a BFA ..majoring in painting,   a MA  in Art Ed & a MA in Art Therapy.

 

I am  local to this area however I was living & creating & selling my craft in Florida for the past 8 years.. I am back now. I have been showing & vending my art  and my crafts at different venues & shows for over 40 yrs. this is my second Avant Garde event.

I consider myself to be a " ceremonial artist "--honoring the Earth & all of its inhabitants.  I follow a Native American path & my work reflects the honor & respect   for all.......  I subscribe to "DO NO HARM "  and give a new "heart beat"  (with honor & respect ) to  which ever part of nature/or animal that  I am working with.....I do many animal portraits ..many are "memorials. " for one who has crossed...  I work with bones & leathers & shells & tail & feathers ...

I also have created a fun line of tie dyes..... I do traditional peace sign, spirals, & other folds... however I have also added in a "turtle shell " fold... & PAW PRINT tie dyes & now Ohio State ties...... I have clothing from Newborn to 5xl.......I also do a line of Lace items  tie dyed.... these items make everyone smile ! that's what tie dye is about....smiling & fun  & finding the 60's in you again   or joining in on that wonderful time !

 

I support many animal rescues & fundraisers  and will be continuing on presenting new paintings ,images & creations... & discovering new tie dye folds & colors!!

Meet Elisa Burchett from Original You LLC...

Elisa Burchett, owner and founder of Original You, LLC in Akron, Ohio, worked in the corporate world for over 10 years before starting her company. Her personal story is what motivated her and led her down this path to find great performing natural products. As herself and her family members suffered from a variety of skin and health issues, such as hormonal acne, psoriasis, warts, low immunity, and asthma, Elisa found that medicinal treatments were often harsh on the skin and body.  She began searching for natural solutions.  To her delight, not only did these natural products eliminate many chemicals and medicines from her family’s home, but many times the natural ingredients worked more effectively and even added benefits beyond what was expected!

Combined with a desire to spend more time with her family, Elisa left her corporate job and began Original You in 2014.  Her heart’s desire is to educate and help others to treat common ailments through the use of natural products and essential oils.  Even more importantly, Elisa wants to encourage her customers to be the original beautiful people they are – to embrace who they are – to bring out their God given strengths and let the authentic person shine through. 

Elisa’s passion drove the research and found the resources needed to begin her business. She was determined to develop a line of natural products that performed, looked and smelled great, while providing education to her customer base. 

Meet Gloria Yeager from Globies...

People call me the "Bandana  Lady," I am retired, been crafting for shows for several years, started when I began making bandanas for my own dogs, then people requested them for theirs, so now I make them for dog events as well as craft shows. These bandanas do not tie on, they slip on the collar and are safe to wear rather than the ones which tie on because they can choke your dog. These come in S M L.   

My #2 best seller is Bar Towels, these are sports themes and are great gifts for men $5.00 only.  

My #3 seller are the magnets. 50 cents each  sports, seasonal and anything I can cut out of a magazine to be interesting. right now the movie Frozen is a big request in the magnets.   

I have "Fun Bags"  which have  current themes, from Frozen, sports, some are denim, these I started making for myself to have a cover for my notebook- they are the right size, but can be used for totes and purses.  Another item very well taken are the Browns Dawg Pound Dawgs.  

I have done other Avant-Garde shows, and I plan on doing more!

Meet Sandie Angart from Three Sisters Plates...

My name is Sandie Angart. I am married, have 2 boys 21 and 18 and a beautiful furry daughter, my golden Daisy

I started my business in 2007. 

This will be my third Avant-Garde Art Show!

It is kind of hard to say what got me into this. I have been creating my whole life. But while spending a week with my 2 sisters, hanging out, shopping, eating and crafting we came up with the idea for the plates (which is why it is called Three Sisters Plates). They both went back to their full time jobs and they encouraged me to run with the idea. "Come on Sandie. Go for it!"

Like everything the more you do something the better you get at it. I have picked up tricks along the way and am always finding ways to improve the finished product. A lot of it is Trail and Error.  About 1 year ago I expanded the idea and now also make bracelets and just recently earrings!

In 5 years or sometime in the future I would LOVE to open my own Brick and Mortar Shop.

My motto has always been "Life throws enough garbage at you. Don't stress over the little things. Laugh Often. Dance and sing whenever and as much as you can. And NEVER life with regret!"

My plates are designed to make people smile, laugh and enjoy. They are a fun addition to any room!

Color Me Bad- Artists & Crafters Who Express Through Color!

Meet Kelly Jadach from Kelly Girl Creations... 

I live in Medina, OH with my husband and two teenage sons.  I'm a stay-at-home mom and a self-taught artist. I have been creating things since I was very little.  As a child I made my own Barbie clothes and furniture for a doll house that my Dad built for me and my sister.  That started my lifelong love of (among other things!) miniatures.  As a teen I painted a bit and I've since painted quite a few wall murals in people's homes.  However, I was most fascinated with anything related to kiln work.  I bought my first kiln 15 years ago and worked primarily with Precious Metal Clay.  My PMC jewelry can be found in several galleries in Kent and Medina.  However, after working on such a small scale with jewelry, I felt the urge to create something bigger - which led to my love of glass fusing!  I have since purchased a second, much larger kiln that fulfills that urge!

This will be my first Avant-Garde Art Show and I am excited to be participating.  I hope to meet many new friends!

There are so many things that inspire me to create.  Sometimes I see a particular color that strikes a chord or possibly an abstract design in a magazine ad.  Believe it or not, a lot of my ideas come to me just before I fall asleep!  I think it’s because that’s when my mind is clearest.

There was no one thing that got me into the craft hobby, other than my constant desire to create something beautiful.  I'm happiest when I'm creating something and it's been that way since I was very young.  I spent hours at my "art table" in my parents’ basement making all kinds of creations!

I would describe my creative process as "fly by the seat of my pants"!  I almost never sketch designs out before working.  I've often read that an artist's designs should be sketched out first and I've tried to follow through with that but it just goes against my nature. I work best by experimenting while I'm working.

In five years I would like to see my Etsy site and my Goodsmiths site to have many new friends and followers!

All I really strive for in my work is to bring a little happiness into someone’s life whenever they use one of my pieces.  If someone picks up a platter or a dish that they've purchased from me and they think "I love this, its so colorful"... then I feel my work is a success.

Meet Cristen Magree from Rusty Bear Studio...
I was born and grew up here in Northeast Ohio while spending summers in Western NY state, immersed in the beautiful country life. After attending Kent State University for Earth Sciences, I settled in Aurora with my husband, Mark, and started my art business, Rusty Bear Studio. I have been fortunate enough to have my artwork accepted into galleries both in Ohio and Chautauqua, NY as well as producing commissions for people across the country.

My mother has been a prominent local artist since long before I was born so I began to create artwork from a very young age. I continued to challenge myself with new techniques after my academic career and, at the age of 25, began to develop my business. Now, at 30, I continue to push myself with new techniques and commissions and I enjoy every minute of it.

This is my second Avant-Garde show and am looking forward to participating in another Avant-Garde event at the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls later this summer.

I have a passion for science, geology and the outdoors, which I try to convey through each piece of artwork I create. I am constantly inspired by the colors, movement and history I see in the parks and countryside that we are lucky enough to have right outside our door here in Ohio. The words of Cole Porter have always been close to my heart, "Experiment. Make it your motto day and night." Without experimentation, I would not have found my footing in multi-media work. 

We are lucky enough to live in the age of information and technology. Without the ability to research and study the many new techniques that artists are coming up with at the touch of a fingertip, I would not have learned about fluid pour or alcohol ink painting. I am always pushed by advancements in the art world to try new things and evolve my style. 

I found my talent for art as a child, drawing and painting for fun alongside my mother and continued to hone my skills throughout high school and college, focusing on animation and Special FX make up. 

Once something inspires me to create a piece, I begin the process of finding color and movement that follows that inspiration. I will use several different mediums that will chemically interact with each other to create new designs and texture. Sometimes I will be working on up to 10 pieces at a time because my techniques call for each layer to dry almost completely before I can continue. I chose acrylic paint and alcohol ink as the bases for my pieces because of their shorter dry time. 

In five years I see myself with a new, larger studio space and a regular presence at more local shows.  

The message behind my work has been greatly inspired by Bob Ross, "I believe everyday is a good day when you paint, I believe it will bring a lot of good thoughts to your heart." Art allows you to see the world in a different light, it can change your mood and bring you to a place that you have never been to before, much like reading a good book. I hope that the colors, movement and subjects of my art bring a sense of peace and happiness to those who see them, as well as inspire a passion for nature.  

Meet Bonnie Francioni from Bon Bon Originals...

I have been sewing since I was 8 years old and designing for over 20 years. I love one-of-a-kind (OOAK) things and much of what I have listed reflects this. I had a children's dress shop in Louisiana in the 1980's, specializing in all things handmade, especially smocking. My mother, who was an incredible seamstress, taught me to sew. She is in a nursing home now and Alzheimer's has robbed her of her sewing skills, but in cleaning our her house we uncovered an amazing stash of fabric and notions, some dating back to the 1940's. My goal is to use up as much as her stash as well as my own so that my daughters will not have to eventually deal with it.  I stand behind everything I make and am careful to check every detail in the construction of my purses and garments. 

I have been sewing for 60 years and started designing little girls' dresses when my daughters were born in the 1960's.

This is my first Avant-Garde show!

Fabric inspires me to create.  I love color.

I got into this when people saw my daughters' dresses and asked me if I would sew for their little ones, but Etsy inspired me to sew for children I did not know yet.

My mother taught me to sew when I was 8 years old  I have always felt that I had to create, be it painting, pottery, gardening or sewing.

My creative process usually starts with a pattern.  I will picture what I want to make, maybe with different sleeves and a fuller skirt.  Then I start pulling out fabric and trims from my stash.

In five years I would like to not need a day job and spend my days creating.

The message behind my work is to dress children like children! Toddlers do not need sexy clothing no matter what the retail outlets think. My second message is to waste not, want not.  I use a lot of vintage lace and fabric, often mixes with designer stuff.  My patchwork dresses use up every scrap!

Meet Kevin McNaughton...

Kevin grew up in Sault Saint Marie, Michigan with seven sisters and a brother.  Over the years that I have known Kevin, I have listened to countless stories about his life as a young boy growing up and the many adventures he experienced, with several I consider life threatening.  Kevin was a lover of the great outdoors and would often sleep in his clothes so he could jump out of bed and get outdoors as quickly as possible.  As an adult, he still loves the outdoors, which is reflected in his work as an artist.  Kevin mostly works with oils on canvas with a focus on landscapes.  He is able to capture the natural lighting often found in nature scenes and produces breath-taking paintings.  He has a natural ability as well as a formal education from Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

After graduating from Kendall School of Design, Kevin moved to Austin, Texas where he worked as an artist painting murals in restaurants as well as producing paintings to be sold in galleries.  He took a break from oil painting and turned his attention to commercial art. After almost thirty years he has recently returned to his roots, oil painting.  I heard him tell his dad “this is what I am supposed to be doing and I think I will be painting for the rest of my life”.

What makes Kevin so interesting to know is his numerous and diverse talents.  Not only is he an accomplished artist, his talents range from remodeling old houses to setting up entire computer networks. He is a master story-teller and can keep a room full of people mesmerized for great lengths of time.  He is a father of four adult children and a grandfather to a beautiful little girl.  He currently lives in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and is an Artist full time.

Meet Jodi from Diella Jewelry…

My name is Jodi Sainato DiPierro, and I am the owner and designer of Diella Jewelry. I graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2007 with a degree in Communication Design and minor in Photography. I had worked as a graphic designer for 8 years and started Diella Jewelry as a hobby in 2008. I have recently taken a hiatus from her graphic design work to concentrate on her true passion in life, jewelry design. I resides in Cleveland, Ohio with my husband Angelo and our two cats Roxy and Monster. Besides design, jewelry and art, I am an advocate for Infertility Awareness and devote a lot of my time to this as well.

I went though a time of unemployment and needed something to do with my time. The fact that I was born with the gift of creativity and I have such an obsession for jewelry, I decided to start making my own jewelry. For the first time in my life I was excited to get up in the morning and work! The first few months I would have to force myself to take a break from creating and go to bed at night. I still live and breathe creating. I have really found my niche in life.

Everything inspires me to create, especially color! But most of the time I make jewelry that I would like to wear. I sort of create for myself and go from there.

I am a very visual person, I see something I like and get 20 ideas in my head. It can be anything from a pattern, a shape or even my cats!  And of course being me, I need to attempt all those ideas. Most of the time they all don't work out, so it becomes trial and error, but that also leads to more new ideas!

Diella Jewelry is meant to be fun, unique and affordable. I personally don't like wearing something 100 other people are wearing, I want my jewelry to catch someones eye because of it's uniqueness. I've never been one of these people who buy or wear something because everyone else is. I'd rather have the cool one-of-a-kind item. I also love wearing different jewelry everyday, because of that I don't buy expensive jewelry. I'd rather have lots of cool jewelry then some boring expensive bracelet that everyone else is wearing.

Meet Kristin Gabriel from Earth Eats…

I am a passionate person. I love to help people learn to cook or offer them healthier options.  I am a firm believer in people being  self-sustained in today’s world of abundance because it is too easy to count on larger companies to feed you and this is why I believe our populations health is declining. I had gained a lot of weight a few years back and realized how badly my eating and lifestyle had become. I realized you can’t count on large companies to be honest what is in your food. The road was and never is easy but it is worth each step. So, now I try to help others.

 My website is www.earth-eats.com. It is a mainly vegetarian catering but we do offer some meat options. I am not trying to exclude anyone because I believe people are scared into thinking things have to be all or nothing. That is fine for some, but not everyone’s bodies work the same way. I believe it is all about the balance and actually being aware first to make your choices.

I have been catering/cooking for 20 years. You should never stop learning in this industry. As I started to get into the healthier side of the cooking for myself and finally decided to try to bring that into the catering.

I have never done crafting shows before but have been to plenty of them over the years. I find sometimes to find the right people you have to be in the right place. I am hoping that my products are embraced at these events. I make everything from jams, jellies, salsas, fruit butters, energy bars, vegan cookies, and assorted baked goods.

I find when you truly care about what you do it is felt by the people who choose it and that is powerful.

Meet Maggie from That’ll Do Farm…

I was born and raised in North Carolina and moved to Ohio in January of this year. So yes, I've made it through one Cleveland winter so far with the generous wool clothing gifts made and given to me by fiber expert, Andrea Wargo, President of the Ohio Natural Fiber Network and soon to be grandmother of our first child! Her son Mike and I met at Appalachian State University and I feel blessed to be a part of the farm organization his family has built in the past 4 years. I teach yoga, make soap, and happily await the arrival of our new addition.

That'll Do Farm has been established since 2009 providing wool, honey, and produce. The soap operation was added this year. This is our first time being in an Avant-Garde show!

Scent evokes emotions and memories. I love creating soaps that induce a sense of comfort or excitement. I believe scent has the power to make one feel every emotion from confident to pampered, so I use my own emotions and memories to craft signature scents and formulas creating not just soap, but an experience! Andrea Wargo encouraged and assisted me in the first few steps and has been there as my support ever since.

Success your first try is always encouraging. The first batch we ever made has ended up being our signature soap. I believe that talent is in the passion to want to make the perfect bar of soap for every need. My creative process involves a lot of experimentation. I feel like a mad scientist sometimes smelling every possible scent combination and furiously scribbling notes.

In 5 years, I hope to see a farm store with all of our products, farmer's markets, boutique retail, and a strong internet following.The message behind my work and the work of the farm is that of providing Ohio's finest locally made, farm raised retail with an emphasis on the "back to roots" lifestyle.

Meet Renee of Firestone Candles…

I have been creating these unique oil lamps for over 10 years. Using river rock and Brazilian agate, I create one of a kind rock candles that are fueled with Ultra Pure Lamp oil. They are easy to use. Simply remove the wick, use the funnel provided to pour oil into the reservoir, replace the wick and light it like a candle!

These can be used indoors or outside. No need to replace the wick as the wicks are created of fiberglass.  The most popular item is the gift box set, which includes an agate, funnel and a small Ultra Pure Oil.
